Ka tuku mihi ki a Te Āti Awa ki Whakarongotai, te iwi mana whenua o Otaihanga me ngā takiwā o Kāpiti. Tēnā rā koutou katoa.
We respectfully acknowledge Te Āti Awa ki Whakarongotai, the iwi with mana whenua over Otaihanga and the broader Kāpiti Coast. We honor their tūpuna and connections to this whenua.
Welcome to the Otaihanga Boating Club — a vibrant and welcoming community hub set in one of the most scenic locations on the Kapiti Coast.
Becoming a member means more than just enjoying the river — it's about being part of a passionate, community-driven club with a rich local history, modern facilities, and a spirit of connection and contribution. Whether you're here for whitebaiting, social events, or simply to be part of a friendly local network, there’s something for everyone at the Otaihanga Boating Club.
A Proud History and Thriving Community
Established in 1953, the Club has long been a central gathering place for the community. From boat races and dances in decades past to today's diverse social events and community meetings, the Club continues to be a place where locals come together. We’re proud to be a self-supporting organisation run by a dedicated committee of volunteers — and we always welcome fresh faces and helping hands.
An Incredible Venue and Local Resource
Our beautifully maintained clubrooms, overlooking the river, are one of the area’s hidden gems. The venue is available for a range of private and community events including weddings, reunions, fundraisers, memorial services, and prizegivings. Regular weekly users include the Kapiti Photography Club, Qui Dong classes, and local coffee groups — creating a lively and active space year-round. While we no longer hire for general parties, we make exceptions for special senior celebrations.
Get Involved and Make a Difference
We offer more than just boating. Join in our social gatherings, help plan community events, or contribute to causes that matter — like advocating for river health and flood mitigation. We work closely with Greater Wellington Regional Council and DOC to protect our local environment, and we’re planning future community meetings to keep everyone informed and involved.
We’re also proud to host a community defibrillator accessible 24/7, supported by local donations, with training sessions available for members.
